AD797 vs. 990c

I was just wondering if anyone has yet built a J99 with the optional AD797? Is there much of a noticable difference in overall sound?

Could someone please comment on this? Saving $100 or so per pre is great, but it would be nice to know what one is giving up

This from the July/Aug 2006 issue of Tape Op...

"...AD797, OPA627) can be used as well, albeit using lower-power rails (adjustable on the boards), resulting in less headroom."

In a second review in the same issue there is this "I was blown away by how huge the J99 (equiped with John Hardy 990C op-amps) sounded. Pretty much dead-on in terms of capturing "the sound" of everything I put in front of it."

Still it would be nice to know from the source how big the difference really is

I'm thinking about doing a comparison- I built a J99 with the AD op amps, and I just received the Hardys. Before I swap them out & change components I'll record some samples with the ADs and then I'll record the same thing with the Hardys. I'll post the results somewhere so that people can make the comparison.
