B16 voltages

Got my 2 B16s assembled and finally got around to testing them.

I get 18v and -18v as I should.
The instructions say to measure voltage at D18 and D19. There is no D19 but based on what the instructions were saying, I figured it as its suppose to be D17 and D18.
I get 46.5v on either of these pins with the switch in the center.
Im seeing the voltage drop at D17 and 18 as it should when the switch is actuated left or right but the voltage reading Im getting at either of these points is 1.5v when activated, on both my units. I checked for shorts, proper orientation of the polarized parts and they all match the screen as they should. I'm willing to bet everything is as it should be but wanted to to get confirmation before I solder in the ICs.

Clarification.. when I actuate the switch one direction, I get a voltage drop at D17, when I actuate the other way of center, I get the drop at D18. Im not getting voltage drops on both simutainously when I actuate the switch.

I doubt very much that you have a problem, but make sure that you have a good CGND connection back to the power supply. Resistance between the CGND, PGND, and AGND pins at J2 should look like a dead short.

Got it all tested, ICs soldered in, and calibrated. Everything looks good and is working perfectly.
This completes my chassis
2x A12
2x N72
2x J99
2x B16

Everything went together smoothly and all worked great the first time.

so far, Ive only gotten to play with them.. nothing serious.
With a lot of compressors Ive used, a lot of them sound very squashy and un-natural sounding. To me, the better a compressor is working, the less you actually hear it working. Thats these.

Acoustic Guitar:
Soft knee, Threshold about 1/2, ratio about a 1/3 the way up, Full Wet Mix and about 4DB of makeup gain.. Very very smooth, no compressor pumping and very natural. Very clean. no noise. The Transformer color is very nice.

Vocal, Same setup, with the ratio a little higher. Same results.

Ive only used it on Vocal and Acoustic Guitar so far. Im anxious to get my drummer in here to try them on Snare and kick. Coupled to the A12s, I'm anticipating great results.

You can get it to do a lot and you can get different release and attack times by playing with the threshold and the gain of the signal being fed into it.

Inverted left/right D17/D18 configuration

Here is a similar question about the appropriate measurements for the voltages at D17/D18.

For a sanity check, my voltages at the +18/-18 pads are 18.05/-18.29.

When the toggle switch SW1 is centered, my measurements at D17/D18 are both 46.79V.

However, my results when the SW1 is to the left/right are opposite from the instructions:

"Flip SW1 to the right and measure the voltage at the anode of D17. You should see 0V." When I push the switch to the right, at D17 I get 45.77V and at D18 I get 0.001V.

"Flip SW1 to the left and measure the voltage at the anode of D18. You should see 0V." When I push the switch to the left, at D17 I get 0.001V and at D18 I get 45.75V.

Is this a problem, did I wire something backwards? Or are the instructions backwards?

opposite polarities on D17/D18 - 47V. Switch right/left

I have the same condition as Elaine above and wanted to be sure. The voltages on the anodes of D17 and D18 are reversed when you flick the switch, opposite as described in the instructions. I thinking that it was just a mix up but why not be sure. It will make the going ahead to the next step even more confident.

I should mention that I built a second B16 (after building a C84, J99 and N72, so my skills were a bit better than during the fist B16 build) and got the same result.

So, I am thinking that either the instructions are backwards for this test, or there is a problem with prior instructions that cause this issue.

Thanks for chiming in elaine. I'm pretty convinced now that theres no problem and was just a wording flip flop something like that. I've been ding this stuff for a long time for a job and went to crazy ends to make sure there were no solder bridges, reversed diodes or caps etc. Then inspected every solder joint with a loupe! Just a major anal bastard. I think we're good to go!

so i just finished a b16 myself and had exactly the same issue of right/left d17/d18 being switched. voltages are all correct except for the 0v result happening when switching to the opposite side from what is says in the directions.
since many people are seeing this, i'm sure its all well and good, but this is what i'm wondering...

does this mean pad and bypass are switched from the directions. I.e. does this mean the pad is now switching SW1 to the right? and bypass to the left?

If Tim or someone who has figured this out can chime in that would be great.
