Oscillation issue when gain is at, or above 2-3 o clock

Postby crtstudios » Fri Sep 23, 2011 3:48 pm

Need a little help here. I just built 2 j99s. One works like a dream, the other goes into an oscillation when I turn the gain up past about 2 o clock. I don't hear much noise, but vu meters show something very hot is coming out of the pre. One more issue is that when I turn this pre up to the oscillation point, the j99 mounted in the case adjacent to the malfunctioning j99 does the same thing. This occurs with, or without a signal, or even a mic cable plugged in. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

What happens if you switch XLR jumpers to PGND?

Try smaller compensation cap for U2, say 100pF to 200pF.
