Portable Mic Pre

Postby dcharrison » Sun Apr 06, 2008 7:29 am

I am interested in adapting one of these designs to serve as a portable mic pre for film sound and field recording. 7.2V seems to be the most common in my kit. What would it take to run one of these babies off batteries?

You'd have to design and build a power supply. I'd imagine you'd need several DC/DC converters and all of the trimmings, but my last EE class was in 1977.

And of course some kind of enclosure to hold the whole thing.

What dkatz said. The most appropriate module for field recording would probably be the T15 as it uses the least current, but you'll still need a way to develop at least +/-22V to keep the regulators working and maintain headroom.

What kind of current draw would I plan for?
