T15 Trim / Fader

Postby lkraven » Sun Oct 21, 2007 10:33 am

According to the product description, the T15 can have its trim pod wired as a fader. However, I wasn't able to find in the instructions how to wire it to act as a full fader.

I assume it's a resistor location that needs to be shunted... which one is it?

T15 Trim / Fader

Look at the lower left hand corner of the PCB, next to the fader / trim knob. There are 2 options. Install a 0 ohm resistor across the Full Fader contacts (the top ones) OR the 5 db contacts (the bottom ones). In the pictures on the Assembly Instructions page you can see that is is soldered into the 5db position.

Which version of the board do you have? For rev 1.1, a jumper at R27 gives a full fader, a jumper at R28 gives a 5dB trim as mentioned above. Rev 1.2 adds a buffer after the pot, so a 0R jumper at R27 gives a full fader, a 5K resistor gives a 5dB trim.

Hey Tim,

Is there an advantage to the full fader as opposed to the 5 db trim? I ask because I totally see the advantage of it in the N72 but with this pre where it is all very clean, is there any sonic advantage?
Marco: You know, you throw a pretty good punch, Captain. Your dad get you boxing lessons?
Captain Murphy: No, I just got beat up a lot. So now when I get the chance I like to sucker punch people.

It's primarily a question of utility. If you'd rather have very fine adjustment than a fader, install a resistor at R27 as described in the assembly instructions.

Just wanted to follow up. The new set of instructions were very clear about where to install the resistor for use as a trim or fader.

I'll just go out on a limb and say it here: you would miss it horribly if you had NEITHER a trim or fader, but between the TWO, for most applications, you won't notice much difference.

Wired as a 6db trim, it would give very fine control, but the reality is that even as a full fader, it is sensitive enough to give you just the amount of output you need or want.

I have it wired up as a full fader, and I have no trouble dialing in the exact amount of output I need, even if it's using a very fine adjustment on the knob. If it were a 6db trim knob, I'd be able to maybe get a little bit more control out of it, but I don't think anyone is going to miss having the extra control if they wire it as a full fader.

Just my 2c.
