hi,

just finished to assemble my A12. It works good - no problem and it sounds great. The only problem i have is the trim that make nothing (no 5dB volume change when i put it from left to right). Where can i begin to search the bad?

thanks

1. Make absolutely sure that R15 and R16 are 10K resistors. R15 is a fixed resistor, R16 is the potentiometer.

2. Re-flow the solder joints are R16. Make sure the leads get hot enough so solder flows into the hole.

3. Make sure you have a good AGND connection at J7, pin 4.

Let us know what you find.

hi,

R15 and R16 are 10 K resistors. i've reflow the solder points at r16 and r15. on J7 pin 4 has no connection to analog ground (mesured pin4 on j7 and Pin 1 on the XLR's)

i can regulate the volume with the potit in a range of 1 db, not more. I've found an other problem that can be in connection with the poti-problem. when i switch the phantom power on i have 4-5 db more volume. And the signal has more low-frequencies.

can you give me any help?

best regards

manfi

What is the signal source? Does switching phantom power off make a difference?

Okay

After a detailed inspection of my A12 I found out, that the trim pot R16 is 1K only.
I'm now trying to find a 10K version, but its not that easy here in Switzerland. Delivery time is up to 8 weeks for 5 pots.
Tim, can you help me?

Just finished building mine last night and have the same issue. The only thing I didn't measure was the pots and sure enough I have 1k Trim pots instead of 10k pots with my 2 A12 kits.

I submitted an email to sales(DTkid at A-O-L dot com) for replacement pots, but thought I'd give a heads up here since there was already a thread on it.

My A12's shipped out on Thursday 03-29-07, so I wonder if mine will have 1K pots, too?

Tim?

Bump. Tim, can you confirm what pots went out with my A12 order on 03-29-07? I'd hate to get these all built, but not have the correct Pots on hand...

I guess I can wait until they arrive, but I usually assemble & install them the day I get them ;) . If you can confirm the Trim Pots are incorrect, I'd prefer to go ahead and get the correct ones shipped now so they are "on the way" ASAP. Might only be another day or 2 of downtime in that case (opposed to a week or more if I wait until the A12's actually arrive in my hands)

Thanks for any info. 8)

Randyman,

My pres were shipped out around 10/30/06, I just took my sweet time getting around to building them!

I'd say good chance you're part of a different batch. ;)

Thanks for the reply. That is comforting. Considering we haven't seen more posts on this issue, I'd think it has been remedied. I'll find out soon enough :)

They should be Bourns 91A1A-B24-B15 10K linear pots. We do our best to make sure the kits are correct, but evidently we shipped a few with 1K pots by mistake. Make sure to check the components against the BOM before you solder them into the board.

All was good with my A12's, Tim. I got both of them assembled the day after I recieved them, and they had the correct 10K pots. I'm getting fairly proficiecnt at these kits by now :)

PS - The pre-made wire harness is very clean, and well worth $39 to save my cursing. I love it...
