To Socket or Not to Socket - That is the question...

OK - Are you folks socketing the Burr-Browns or soldering them directly to the board? If you're socketing anyone want to share a part number...[/i]

Chips IMO are always better in a high quality socket.

In the very long term, sockets may cause reliability problems. If you do use a socket, use a "machined pin" type.

Thank you

I really donp't expect to be changing out the OP amps at all (unless one fails) so I think I'll go natural.

Specific IC Socket Spec?

I went to Mouser.com and got completely confused. Can somebody tell me a specific item number to socket the ICs on my C84 mic pre? I may want to do component research later and so socketed ICs are the way to go.

Thanks!

IC Socket Part Number

Postby Ken Schumacher » Thu Sep 28, 2006 5:05 pm

I ordered these and they seem to work. My C84 voltages came in right and it sounds good.

Mouser 575-893308
MFG PN 115-93-308-41-001000
8P VERY LOW PROFILE
Mill-Max DIP Sockets

I don't know if these are machine pin. The data sheet didn't say.
Only 73 cents apiece.
