Early version PSU problem

Postby pH » Sun Dec 29, 2013 10:31 am

Strange issue with an older SCA with linear power supply. I plug it in and it immediately trips the GFI that protects the whole room (no, not a bathroom :D ). It trips even when the SCA power switch is in the off position. I have a pretty decent collection of tube and SS gear, including a newer SCA rack (switching PSU), and nothing has ever tripped the GFI before.

I don't have a schematic of this early PSU. Can anyone send me a pdf or link?

It's probably the very aggressive RF filter across the AC line. Pull out the cap that connects to chassis ground. If the symptom disappears, replace it with similar type and voltage but smaller value.

Okay, I'll give that a go. Also, it seems the GFI in question is more easily tripped than others in the house.
