PS03: No -30 Happy Light LED

Hi y'all, first post here.

I just finished assembling my PS03. When I fire up the power supply, I get happy lights for +48 and +30, but not -30. Doesn't matter whether the wiring harness is connected or not, or whether the front panel LED is connected or not. Thoughts?

thanks,
eric

What modules are installed? Is there a load on the -30v output?

No modules installed yet, so no load on the -30v rail whatsoever.

Don't worry about it until you've attached a load. Let us know what you find.

One other detail I forgot to mention: my output voltages measured on the Molex jack are easily within 5% of correct.

Wonder if I just got a bad LED or something.

On with the C84 assembly...I'll let y'all know what happens.

OK, got the C84 assembled and installed. Everything works perfectly, so indeed I must've just gotten a bad LED or something.

Are you saying the -30v LED is still dark? What voltage do you measure at the -30v output?

Yup - the -30v LED is still dark, but I measure almost exactly -30v at the correct pin on the Molex, and my C84 is happy as can be.

Well, something's not right but it doesn't sound like it's doing any harm. We'll be happy to repair or exchange the PS03 if you like.

If it ends up being an issue, I can always send it back at that point. It was more of a curiosity thing than anything. Thanks for the support!

Hi tim i have a similar problem. I cant seem to get the power led to work. When i power up the -30v led lights up momentarily then turns off after a second or so. When there are no modules connected however, all three led's light up but still no power led. I have the 2 N72's working perfect though.

You probably have the panel lamp wired backwards. If the -30v output is between -28v and -32v you don't have a problem.

Hi tim, i'm sure i have it connected the right way, positive with a white mark on the lamp which goes to the outer most pad on the PSO3. I'm getting -31.8v and +28.6 but as soon as i plug a module in, the voltages go up slightly to -34.5v and +29.9v, still no lamp. Anything else i could check for?

Try reversing the leads and see what happens. If it still doesn't work, let us know and we'll send a replacement. Are you quite sure you're getting 30V at the lamp terminals?

Hi Tim, i tried reversing the leads but still no lamp. I'm getting 30v at the terminals also. Please check your mail.
