noob power supply/module question

the power supply is regulated. some or all cards have on board regulation. is this redundant? if so, can you just provide unregulated dc to a card to power it? i.e. can you feed just the 115v output of an ac/dc power transformer to a card?

how about using one of those 400 ma 30v dc power supplies used for printers and such. if i'm only using dynamics i won't need the 48v for phantom. the requirements on the n72 says 100ma. could i use a 400ma supply to power 4 modules or is that cutting it too close

A supply like that would work for the N72, but not for any other module. If you try it, you're on your own. You do realize that 4x N72KFs, power supply, chassis, and wiring harness is $1622, only $324 more than the modules alone?

The kits ARE a kick-ass deal IMO (major discounts with a Module, Chassis and PS03!).
