Another Pulsating Light + measurements question

Postby niccolo » Fri Jul 30, 2010 9:08 am

Hi there,
My experience with the kits has been phenomenal, I've built my own 8 ch. rack over two years and everything went well first try (almost).
Now I've built an N72 module for my colleague (first module of his rack), tested it out of the chassis and everything was ok, phantom, gain, noise - all OK.
Then I left and my friend did the mistake of connecting the wire harness offset of one connector so that pin 1 was on 2, pin 2 on 3 and so on, leaving out pin 6.
He called me saying that the unit didn't pass signal, so I went there to discover his mistake.
After reconnecting the harness correctly the PSU's light now pulsates and the N72 doesn't pass audio, the three leds on the PSU don't light and the main led pulsates even when the N72 is disconnected and no modules are attached.
I've measured the voltages on the harness coming from the psu and it seems the strongest is just ~6 volts, while I don't have my own functioning rack here for reference it seems to me that 6 v is just too low.
I'm writing to ask if I can get a list of voltages appearing at the harness terminals.
I suppose the PSU has to be sent back home to SCA for repairs but I'd like to see if something can be done, since we are located in Italy.

thanks

Front to back

1) +30v
2) PGND
3) -30v
4) AGND
5) +48v
6) CGND

If you want to try troubleshooting on your own, carefully remove the supply from the chassis and check the rectifier diodes for shorts.
