2 C84, 2 different sounds

I had two friends built a pair each. The sound isn't totally different, the pair one of the friend built has a bit more low end, so I preferred that one. Neither one could explain why the difference. Any opinions? They both work good, so it isn't like it was assembled wrong, I don't think.

Just because they work doesn't mean they were assembled the same. If you really want to know, you will need to very carefully confirm the resistor codes all match and that the Caps are the same.

First, are you quite sure there really is a difference? Can you identify them in a blind test? If so, can you actually measure any difference in frequency response? Most obviously, are they all the same version?

Thanks guys, I'll try to get some measurements done this week.

And don't forget that the PHASE switch will have a drastic effect when monitoring yourself singing into a mic with headphones on (this seems to be how 75% of us "Test" our freshly assembled modules ;) ).

If you notice this while others are singing, or on playback, then this is not the issue... Can you run pink noise, and overlay the frequency response outputs from the 2 different modules?
