both pres are noisy now

so recently i built 2 c84s and they were working great. recently i went to use them and noticed when using dynamics or a ribbon the noise floor is really loud. i was wondering if anyone had a solution for this? the gain when using condensers is really hot. typically i can't turn the pre up at all and it is still overloading things.
any thoughts would be awesome!

What revision of the board do you have?

i bought them in october so it should be the rev 1.9 boards.

Has this symptom just appeared, or have you just recently noticed it?
What sort of recorder or interface are the preamps connected to?
Are you absolutely certain that you're driving a line level input set to +4dBu and not a mic level input?
Does the noise disappear if you short pin 2 to pin 3 at the input XLR?
