Anybody else have a pop in the phantom switch.

Postby Category 5 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 12:14 am

Mine is making a nice pop when I switch it on and off. i was always under the impression that when connecting and disconnecting mics the phantom power should be off, but I hate having to remember to nute the channel before I do it.

Is this pop normal behavior for the a12?

This is typical, though it depends on the mic. The only way around it is to ramp the +48V very slowly, or to automatically mute the output for a few seconds while the +48V is switching. Our preamps have simple RC filters after the phantom switch to soften the pop, but they don't eliminate it completely.

Well at least I feel better knowing that it's normal.

I just an't get over the fact that I soldered in the parts, hooked it all up, and it worked! My self destructive ego simply insists that something must have gone wrong but nope...the preamp is quiet, has tons of gain, and sounds great!

Kudos again on such a great product! Everyone who owns a studio should build one...just learning what the parts do is worth the time invested alone!

Even though I've built LOTS of stuff, from scratch and from kits, I still get a kick out of plugging something in and seeing it work first time.
