Op Amp choices?

Postby ParlorMusic » Wed Oct 06, 2004 4:48 am

What are the some of the good picks of API clone Op Amps, their prices and sources? I've seen the John Hardy and Brent Averill ones mentioned, but are there others worth a look at? Of course, sound quality is a must-have. I'm a novice DIYer.

Once it's ready the best bet bet will be to order Tim's SC25 2520 clone with the full kit. It will be $75 by itself, but discounted to $40 when purchased with the full kit. That will bring the full kit price to $300 with an op-amp.

The only person who has heard it as of yet is Tim. I am waiting to get a pair and compare them with my real 2520s, but according to Tim himself they are designed and built to sound like real 2520's, so if you're after the sound of a real API they'd probably be the best choice...

Unless of course you have some real 2520s. Although, Tim has supposedly imrpoved CMRR and noise in his version so they may prove to be a bit quieter and more consistent if not better sounding.

P.S. My real 2520s have about 8uV of DC offset at some positions, but man do they sound amazing.

I took your advice and ordered the SCA op amp with the A12. I got it all wired up and turned it on last night. It sounds absolutely incredible! Compared to the N72, the A12 is more airy and present, yet has all of the same qualities as the N72.

People, for $40 you can't find a better deal out there!
