I started Wednesday, decided to build them together and finished them this Friday morning, fired em up and absolutely *perfect*. Every voltage right on the money, +/- 18 volts on the opamps and 0 volts with R19. Not a *single* problem. Opamps running warm, not hot, no noise, no static, no pops. Dang! Phantom power working 100%, polarity perfect, trims working perfect.. Did I say it was 100% perfect?
And all this from someone who has never as much even soldered a resistor on a practice pad! And oh, these sound exceptional, as everyone here knows. Wonderful on acoustic guitar with a pair of AKG 451EB mics
Just two little suggestions to add to the directions, from someone who was a beginner, it was easy to follow except just a couple areas.
1) Wiring the output tranny. The photo shows the color of the wires match the PCB 1:1 straight across. I had to stop and think about it for a moment... should I just wire it 1:1 or actually match the colors? Well, common sense kicked in and I just matched the colors. Heck a kid could do it! Anyway, just a minor suggestion, I think a note in the instructions could help someone new at this from making an obvious mistake.
2) Calibrating R25 and R29. The instructions assume you know how to bring them to +/- 18 volts. Again it only took me just a moment to figure it out, but a small note saying *how* to adjust the pots, as in turn this way to lower and turn this way to raise....
Anyway, those are minor, and it just shows how well this kit is put together. I'm not only proud of building a pair of API sounding pres, but I'm also happy to know that the NEVE sound is just a few bucks away whenever I want it! Excellent stuff SCA. Good job!
