gain vs. trim

Postby cwalcott » Fri May 25, 2007 12:48 pm

what is the practical difference between wiring the gain/trim pot as a full fader vs. a 6db trim.

why would i want to do one over the other?

Wiring as a full fader allows you to drive the first stage into clipping yet still maintain full output level control. Wiring as a 6dB trim allows fine adjustment of gain between switch settings.

ah, got it. the 6db trim is how my amek 9098 is wired. i like the idea of being able to overdrive the first stage. cool!

i just figured out that the N72 is the only module to offer the trim knob to be used as a fader (just got 2 J99's and 2 A12's). is there any way to wire these up as faders instead of trim?
