N72 stopped passing signal

Postby craigmorris74 » Sun Jul 14, 2013 11:25 am

I have an N72 that has worked great for several years. Today I tried to use it, but it wasn't passing signal. I got pops at the last three or four gain switch positions. My guess is that there is a problem with one of the pads associated with the switch. Does this seem correct, or could there be other things to look for? I wanted to get some other ideas before I opened it up.

Thanks,

Has it been moved recently?

Can you hear the noise floor increasing with each gain step?

The vast majority of problems are due to bad soldering. Try re-flowing all of the joints around the rotary switch and associated resistors. Verify that your transformer wiring is correct.
