Anybody wanna trade preamps?

Postby jmoore » Wed Oct 17, 2007 6:06 am

I've got a J99 (w/Hardy 990's) that I am interested in trading for an N72 or possibly an A12. The J99 sounds great, but I'm looking for something with a bit more character. There is about a $100 price difference between these preamps once you factor in the cost of the opamps, so I'll probably want a little bit of cash to make the trade even out. How about $50.

Let me know.

I bought my Universal Audio Solo 610 used off of ebay a few months back and it is in good condition. I can provide pictures and sound samples upon request.

I'd be willing to trade the Solo 610 straight up for a built J99 (as long as there's 2x John Hardy 990C's installed), if you are willing to to pay for the cost of shipping for both the UA Solo 610 and J99- if the cost is unreasonable I might consider just the difference in shipping for the two items, depending on where the J99 is shipped from.

Since I'm in Canada the total I'd be paying after tax, including shipping for the op-amps and module for a J99 is about $600 CDN. I paid around $700 CDN incl shipping for the Solo 610. The J99 is the only kit that I've found that is the same price for me to get built through a third party US technician as it is just to ship the unbuilt module and 990 op amps from SCA & JH Co respectively.

The reasons I would rather have a J99 over the SOLO is that I have to conserve tabletop/rackspace and also have 3 empty slots in the CH01. Also I wouldn't mind adding a contrasting flavour to the mix that my A12's and N72's can't offer.

If I can't find any interested parties- I'll just keep the Solo since I'm more than happy with the sound- it's more the form factor that's of greater importance for me as a J99 wouldn't be occupying any real estate in my rack that's not already called for. Plus it's a Jensen Twin Servo circuit.

To clarify, just like the author of the original post mentioned- I'm hoping to do a straight up trade. The only money required would be for shipping, which I would get correctly priced from the post office.

I'm most comfortable dealing with people with ebay ID's in good standing since I can also verify location and feedback score, and vice-versa for anyone interested.

PM me...if this seems like a reasonable deal.

Regards

Since the topic was already posted- I didn't think it was necessary to start a new thread...my offer is open to anyone who has a built J99 twin servo pre (with JH 990's) who is in the market for a tube/coloured pre from Universal Audio... as I am also attending school, this is the simplest way for me to get a J99, otherwise it won't be for a year or so...

Thnx

I've already traded my J99 (serious regret), but there is a cat over on gearslutz.com that has a pair of J99's that he's trying to sell. He might be willing to work out a trade.

Good luck!

I traded it to another guy for his A12 based primarily on gearlust. I really liked my J99 but I really wanted to try out the A12 and so I pulled the trigger. The J99 is really just an amazing sounding preamp and I hate the fact that I spent so much time building it and now somebody else is getting to enjoy it. Eventually I will build another one.

Ahhh... I understand. Thanks for sharing.

So, trying to look at the bright side, when you build another J99 you'll have it AND the A12. It definitely sounds like that day will come. :)

All the best,
