Is there still going to be another SCA module?

Postby davidaltemeier » Mon Oct 08, 2007 7:20 pm

Hey Tim-

I happened to see this the other day;
"We're currently planning an active DI and one more high-end mic preamp module for the CH01 chassis."

i don't suppose there's any way that high-end mic pre is going to have a tube in it, is there?
:D :)

(love the ones i have already, by the way)

Just wondering!
Thanks

No Tube unless it's going to run at +/- 28VDC :eek: . I think we could do without that ;)

I am, however, VERY interested in what the next pre will be. Maybe something like an SSL Clone?

:cool:
Just trying to get by...

OK, so I'm no electronics guy (I had a friend assemble my modules), so I have no clue what the parameters are here, but from what you're saying, I gather that it's not possible for a tube pre to run off the current power supply?

If so, that's to bad, about the only flavor I'm missing from my line up at this point is some tubey goodness... :)

Tubes require high voltage DC to operate. One could imagine putting a DC/DC converter on the card to bump up the voltage, but I suspect that the physical space required would also be a problem given the form factor of the cards. Oh, and the heaters usually run on low voltage AC...

There will be at least one more "high end" preamp module in addition to the DI, but it won't have a tube. As dkatz says, it's certainly possible using DC/DC converters, but I simply have no interest in it. If you're interested in a great tube preamp kit, bug the guys at K&K about their updated RCA circuit, or check out Hamptone.
