Fabricating a chasis?

Postby Jiggity » Tue Mar 04, 2008 11:50 am

Just wondering if anyone has made there own chasis. I work for a e-waste recycling district and we get in a lot of electronics. I am thinking of taking some of the metal we have and fabricating my own chasis. Anybody have the dimensions of the chasis sold here on seventh circle? Or at least the depth? I Also would need to know how far apart the potentiometer and switch holes are drilled on center. I know it may be more trouble than it is worth but I would like to give it a try. We get in a lot of old rackmount stuff that just might worth modifying.

Making your own version of the CH01 certainly is possible, but is it worth the trouble? I highly doubt it. The CH01 more solid than most of rack gear I run across, and is actually quite pleasing to look at.

If you have your heart set on making your own, I would suggest buying one from SCA first. After seeing what a great product it is, you may decide not to try for yourself. But if you still want to, inspect and measure it all you'd like. It should make the custom version easier if you can see the original firsthand. Then if your custom attempt doesn't work, you have the original to fall back on. If the custom chassis works, then you know how to make more. Resale on the CH01 should be good if you don't want to keep it lying around.

But seriously, for the convenience and price, the CH01 wont be beat.

I didn't realize the discount you get when you purchase the n72, chasis, and power supply. Hell of a deal I must say. When I get an extra 600 buck I will be making a purchase. I just completed a tremelo kit from general guitar gadgets and it works great. I also have a tube screamer kit I will be starting on soon. I am very exited about taking the next step by building some of these preamps!
