Burn-in?

Postby Archmart » Fri Jun 29, 2007 11:41 am

Hey Hey!

Just curious. Is any kind of a burn-in recommended, such as just powering up the chassis full of modules and leaving it on overnight?

Would running audio through the channels be advised while at it?

And right now I'm waiting on a replacement SC-25, so that module is sitting in the chassis and connected to power. Should I unplug that one while doing a burn-in?

(I've got 2 A12s (one missing an SC-25) and 2 C84s done, and I want to do an N72 tonight and use it in a session tomorrow morning.)

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert here, but it would do no harm, and is not required either. I did no burn in stuff. I just started listening to mics! You could do some simple tests while you're at it, just to make sure everything works, each module sounds consistent, etc... just make sure to cover-up the loose ends of the wire harness (if you have less than 8 in there) so as to not short out on the chassis metal...

have fun!

Hey Hey!

Thanks.

I've already had a lot of fun just building these things. It's been a great experience, although a bit laborious at times such as sorting the resisters. :)

Everything so far has worked well except one SC25 and that should be replaced soon.

You know, I even actually like the fact that the C84 instructions weren't up to date when I was building, because it forced me to get off the step by step blind following of instructions and think through what I was doing.

Thanks,
Archmart

p.s. I see you're in Ft.Wayne. I'm serving as Pres of EARS, the Engineering and Recording Society of Chicago. I'm not going to say that EVERY meeting would be worth the drive, but check us out and let me know if you want to be on the mailing list:

Hey Hey!

Drop me a PM with your email address and I'll put you on the list.

Also, if you look on the Tape Op message board under "Hookups" you'll find a thread called "Chicago Beer Night" where some of us are planning to get together tomorrow night (July 5).
