Ok, any DIY-er that wants to build a mic preamp has a few dozen choices. But there is nothing available for someone who wants to build a simple 8x2 line mixer. I'm looking for something extremely simple and basic: 8 inputs, each with a rotary fader and panpot, and a passive summing bus. NO Aux sends, monitor controls, meters or other accessories. (almost everyone has different needs when it comes to these additional features - instead of forcing folks to buy things they don't want or need, lets just build a rock solid, high performance 8x2 line mixer.) Instead of a complicated master section, just provide a stepped attenuator and transformer coupled output. To make things as flexible as possible, two additional buffered outputs would allow folks to hook up their fancy monitor control units, outboard meters or whatever. Providing XLR outputs for these master section utilities allows for flexibility without forcing others to purchase monitoring or metering systems that they might already own.

The required make-up gain for the master output could be included as a simple amp circuit (like those available from Forsell) or it could be left for outboad solutions, similar to the Fulcrom. The key is to assemble 8ch of high quality rotary faders, panpots and associated circuitry and tie it all together in a passive summing bus. This would make the mixer more useful than the very limited "summing" boxes that are so popular, but without the extreme cost associated with high end mini mixers currently available from several small manufacturers.

Or am I the only one looking for something like this???

Thanks for the suggestion, but we have no plans for such a product.
