Actually, I cant speak about any of the SCA pres except the J99s.
After having built two, failing to calibrate them correctly, sending them to Tim for fixing, and getting them back yesterday, I just wanted to give a quick review of both the quality of the pres as well as the service: excellent on all acounts.
The J99s are lucious, focused and just what I was hoping they would be. The only drawback is that my mics, in that they all sound quite different now for the better, are going to require some experimenting as to what sounds best on what.
I have been writing lately for a small ensemblle: ac. guitar, cello, piano, ac. bass and occasionally clarinet and wanted to start with a couple of mic pres that would be versitile. I have only been able to test the effects of the J99s on a stereo pair recording acoustic guitar so far, but in just a couple hours last night I produced recordings of much better fidelity and with much, much more focus and imaging than any other recordings I've done in the last several years using an MP20 and a Mindprint. Equipment does make a difference. So there's that.
Also, I want to say how much I appreciate Tim's approach from everything from packaging to , well, simply doing what he says he's going to do in a reasonable amount of time. These days, with some people, there's a hell of a lot more hype than reality. There's no hype here. Seventh Circle Audio serves up good portions of reality and dependability and I just wanted to publically say thank you.
