How Can I Buy What You Don't Have?

Postby Madguitrst » Tue Dec 30, 2003 6:46 pm

Hello Tim,

I hope all is well at 7th Circle.

A couple of months ago I tried purchasing a unit from you. I requested a quote on 2 channels of N72 and 2 channels of J99 and requested advice and prices on configurations. Also, at the time, you didn't have anything available.

I called once and emailed several times but I've yet to hear back from you. Quite frankly, I'd given up. However, I read on another news group that you gave a rprice on that very same configuration to someone else. So, I came back to have another look.

Well, here's what I see on your site. Nothing available, again. Also, I see that your prices have increased significantly, which is not so great, at least not f you every actually get preamps in for sale.

Anyway Tim, I don't mean to sound so negative. I once spoke to you on the phone and you seemed to be an honorable person and were quite nice.

But you see, the the thing is this: You preamps offer many desirable things, such as expandability and flexibility. At one time, they seemed to offer the best price by a little bit, which of course, is a plus for any budget.
However, I feel a bit jilted here, seeing as I tried to buy units but they were unavailable and you never responded....and now, the price has increased?.....on what is essentially vaporgear?

Tim, let me get to the point:
Will you have any preamps available any time soon?
Will you contact your potential customers?
So whaddya say? How about it?

Have a safe and happy New Years!

I just assembled 2 N72s last month. I received the kit promptly, and am really pleased with the sound. I wish I'd have had these to begin with! Tim was a big help.

Please be patient, the N72s are worth the wait, and believe me, a lot of work goes into offering these preamps. I think Tim may be the sole operator of SCA?

Sorry to hear that you've been frustrated, but availability should improve dramatically in a few weeks. Obviously, the last thing we want to do is turn customers away, but demand for the N72 has consistently outstripped supply, and many people have visited the site only to discover that we're out of stock on the item they're interested in. This hasn't stopped many people from placing orders anyway, which ensures they get the items they need as soon as possible, and also helps to keep us afloat. In the upcoming year, we're determined to dramatically reduce the time our customers have to wait to receive their orders. We've finally been able to purchase transformers and chassis in larger quantities, and should be able to maintain stock on full and complete kits in a similar fashion to the minimal kits, which have been available fairly consistently. (And are in stock now, BTW)

Our prices have changed, and have been adjusted to reflect our changing costs. The newly updated CH01 chassis is 16 gauge cold-rolled steel, with welded seams and a black powder coating. The front panel is now 3/16" thick, and is painted and silk-screened in two colors. The power supply is double-shielded with 50 mil mu-metal and steel, and comes assembled with any complete kit. All these improvements have pushed the cost of a 272K up to $899, and even at that price the kit is an incredible bargain. But because we're buying parts in larger quantities, the price on a full channel kit has actually been reduced $54, to $295, and an assembled channel has been reduced the same amount.

Even with our increased investment to improve availability, assembled preamps are still being built by hand, by me, and will still be subject to a considerable lead time. If you really want to ensure you get the preamp you want, the best way is to reserve your place in line by actually placing an order, as many people have done. That goes for kits as well as assembled preamps, of course, and assures you of receiving your order as soon as possible.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply, I hope you had a safe and happy New Years.

I have no problem placing an order and waiting for a preamp, none what-so-ever. If it helps your business, that's great.

But a little communication would go a long way. I wanted to get prices on different configurations, if possible. And if not, that's okay too.

I was interested in 2 channels of N72 and two of J99.
Hey, another 2 of A12 would be awesome!
Do you know about when the A12 will be coming out?

How can I make contact with you?

From the http://www.seventhcirclestudios.com/SCA/prices.htm page:

SCA 272 - $1149
SCA 272K - $899
SCA J99KM - $89

The J99 is only available as a minimal kit for now. The cost of a complete J99 module is about the same as for an N72, but it depends greatly on what op-amps you use, and whether you fit an output transformer. The A12 will be available in about 4 weeks or so, also as a minimal kit only. Prices will probably be in the neighborhood of $79.

You can always email me directly at tim@seventhcirclestudios.com.
