Shorts

Postby Pleasurehead » Fri Nov 13, 2009 6:39 pm

Hi,
I've just finished my first module D11. I have tried the first check before power up and have a problem with pin 2 to 3 on J3. I can't seem to find a short anywhere. I've checked diodes and caps are right way round. Is there anyway of checking for a short other than by eye?

Thanks

Do you mean J7? What resistance do you measure? Is it constant or changing with time? Your meter is the most effective tool for finding a short, since you can't see inside a shorted component.

Does that mean zero ohms or an open circuit? What you're looking for is "not a short".

Hmm. I must read my Electronics for dummies again I'M a bit lost with the multi meter lol. When I test pin 1+2 I get a reading of 1.744 and rising. when I measure 2+3 I just get OL ..

I think it's an open circuit. Also, can you tell me which way round I was supposed to install transistors Q1-Q4? The instructions I downloaded become very vague about this. Does it make a difference?
Thanks

"Be sure to align the flat side of the transistor with the flat side of the silkscreen outline"

Nothing vague about that. Sorry! I got them in right anyway
