Pushing the Gain

Postby ElektricEye » Tue Apr 28, 2009 10:04 pm

I just built my first 2 pairs of SCA Pre's a12's and N72's and after only having them a day, I love em! I'm hooked. My question is with the N72 I noticed that I can crank the gain to lets say 9 or 10 and back off the fader nob, which seems to give the pre a nice warm character. I noticed that the T15 can also be wired as a fader nob, as opposed to a 6 DB trim, I was wondering if increasing the gain on the T15 and then backing off the fader give's this pre-amp any "interesting characteristics".

For the record I do realize that it's the transformer your pushing on the N72 and this one has no transformer.

You can certainly get it to distort. Whether it sounds "interesting" doing so is up to you to determine.
