A12's sound great on Drums

I used my 4-pack of A12s on a drum session yesterday. They worked and sounded great! Big warm sound.

Again, some questions on the A12's in use: I found that there is a ton of Gain available on these units. I used the A12's on Kick, Snare, OH left, OH right. The Gain knob was at 2-3 and Trim at 0. I can't imagine where I would need the Gain to be at 10-12. That would really overdrive the amp. Or, is that a desired effect?

Regardless, I'm impressed and so were the sesson players. Today I'm going to start assembly on my 4 pack of N72's.

It can be.

Depending on which type of mic you're using, you may need a lot more gain (ribbon mics, for example.)

Drums are REALLY loud! Vocalists, acoustic instruments are generally a lot quieter.
