Installing the op amp

Postby jimi » Thu Jul 14, 2005 1:49 pm

I'm ready to finish up my first A12 (I hope I have done it correctly!) and need to connect the SCA op amp. How do I solder it on? There is no way to reach the connectors. Maybe it doesn't need solder?

Also, the instructions say the original API op amp worked best with +/-16VDC. What does the SCA op amp use? The same?

Didn't you install the Mill-Max sockets? They're in the parts list. The op amp just plugs in.

I used +/- 18v

Yes, I did install the sockets. I thought the op amp needed to be soldered into them. Good to know it doesn't.

Why did you choose +/-18V? I haven't found any docs on the SCA op amp yet - maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places...

I think Tim commented on this once before... but I chose 18 because I had an Avedis op amp in the first one I built, and Avedis suggested it was a good number for his part. I plugged in the SCA part, and it worked fine.

Tim said "between 18 and 20" for his opamp in another thread last year sometime.....
