alternative power supplies and 1u rack mounts?

Postby papareel » Tue Mar 22, 2005 11:06 am

Hi. First post here. Just wondering if there is a cheaper alternative out htere(like a wall wart) power supply for the A12. Maybe it defeats the purpose of PRO audio, but hey I'm curious. Also I'm thinking of buying two modules and mounting them in a 1U Rack. Has anyone succesfully done this? Any photo's, links, tips or suggestions. Thanks,

Some people have tried the alternative rack thing, and pretty much all have come back to say they wished they bought the CH01. Once you start drilling metal, punching holes, and getting the modules to fit properly you'll realize the beauty of the CH01.

...and then will come the hum and buzz. No, it isn;t just as simple as putting the PS on one side and the modules on the other.

Trust me. The CH01 is worth the price and more, especially considering the discount you get on the power supply for getting a full module kit.

Also, the PS is one of the most important parts of the box. A cheap power supply WILL effect the sound of the preamp. Don't skimp. Wait until you can afford the who deal and you'll be really glad you did. Alternate chassis and power supply ideas are a false economy.

I've built some PAIA stuff before. But never built a power supply or chassis or anything. I think i still just need 2 preamps, maybe i could fill the rest with magic soda.

PAIA stuff is... junk. This is the real thing, and it deserves to be built correctly.

A competent, experienced builder/fabricator could create a 2-module chassis and a suitable external power supply, and maybe even do it economically. For the rest, the CH01 and PS02 are the best idea.

i'm convinced. don't skimp on the goods. well then how easy would it be to have a line input as well. i have a drum machine sampler that really likes preamps as well.

thanks,

get the chassis and replace the face plate for one with holes for just the 2 channels. or even use the extra space with VU meters
