Sexying Up the SCA

Postby Todzilla » Mon Sep 25, 2006 11:51 am

I'm about to take the pounce with a pair of A12s, chassis and PS.

But I am a bit bored by the standard front panel look and the drab knobs.

Has anyone painted and/or given different knobs to their unit?

I'm assuming the front plate is symmetrical such that I can flip it and paint the backside, using it for a front side (unless this interferes with grounding principles). I'm looking for info on durable, adhering paint. Also, any line on very oddly different knobs would be awesome.

If I'm investing a thousand bucks on something this cool, I want it to look cool. Plus, that will help me get over my almost-entirely-aesthetics fueled lust for a Focusrite Red 7.

Cheers,

I don't think you can do this.

the power switch and power light are different sizes, also the phase and 48 V switches are not symmetric.

theres always front panel express...

Brad,

Thanks. That's good to know. Do I glean correctly that Front Panel Express lets you custom design a front panel including engraving?

Damn, I'll bet that's expensive.

Something you might want to consider is how altering the panel will affect resale value. I think it's much smarter to create a custom panel with a service like front panel express than to modify the stock panel. Set the stock panel aside until you're sure your custom panel isn't causing problems, and also so that you can go back to the stock panel if you ever want to sell the unit.

My little 4 module, 1ru set is painted gloss black with glow-in-the-dark labels and different color, chicken-head knobs. (Red = N72; Yellow = A12; Blue = C84)

Yes - Pics please! I'd love to do a cheaper 1U unit with 4 A12's (3124 killer ;) ) as I know I would never fill up 2 complete 8-Slot Chassis... And what are you doing for a PSU?

Just trying to get by...

I'm starting down the sca road (2 N72's + 1 A12 OR J99, not sure) and I'm considering a slight revision to the chasis such as color and bigger, or? knobs. please post any pics of your chasis mods. I'm betting other would also like to see.

I have to sell my only pre / universal audio 2-610 (w/telefunkens) to fund my sca venture and will miss it's very cool look (and ofter it's large Nat King Cole'ish sound) ...sucker for cool looking yet quality gear.
thanks!
