J1/J2 and CONN3, 4, and 5.

Postby jwryan » Wed Oct 02, 2013 11:21 am

I'm almost done assembling my B16. However, I''m confused about CONN3, CONN4, and CONN5. I was unable to install J1 and J2 because I do not see them on the board. Instead, I have CONN3, 4, and 5 that I am not sure what to do about. Is this an updated board that is different from the assembly instructions? I have the 2S Output Transformer version.

Thanks,
JR

I have Rev. 1.3 of the board. I'm also noticing that C28 and C30 are touching the heat sinks on U5 and U6 since they are oriented differently than in the assembly instructions. Is this going to cause any problems?

JR,
Did anyone get back to you one this? I took a look at the schematic for 1.3, and CONN3 seems to be replacing the TP1 stereo link from version 1.2. My guess is that it is easier to add and remove the link between two units using an actual female-to-female extension cable instead of soldering a link and then adding/removing the jumper.

Anybody else come to same conclusion?

Hope this helps.

Best,
Ryan

Hey,

Did this ever get resolved? I got that conn3 is for the stereo link jump cables, but how do the grounding jumpers (j1/2) correspond to the new 5 pin conn4 and 4 pin conn5?

Tim got back to me, you can safely ignore conn4 and conn5, j1 and j2 have been deleted in Rev1.3. Conn 3 is still the stereo link jumper.

I had planned to break the stereo link out by modifying the faceplate and adding switch to J1 on one unit (leaving the other one jumped) and connect TP1 on the 2 units so I could switch between stereo and mono operation. Does anyone know how to do this on the rev. 1.3 boards using Conn 3? I checked the schematic linked from the product page, but it still shows the TP1/J1 set up. Is there a way to make the rev 1.3 stereo link switchable?

Regards,
John
